Why We Squat Every Week at Little City Fitness
If you've spent any time with us at Little City Fitness, you’ve likely noticed that squats show up on our whiteboards week after week. Whether it's back squats, front squats, goblet squats, or air squats — they’re a staple in our programming. But why? Why do we place such a high priority on this one movement?
Because squats are foundational — not just in fitness, but in everyday life.
Squatting is a primal, functional movement that mimics actions we do all the time: sitting down, picking something up, standing up, getting out of the car, or even tying our shoes. When done correctly and consistently, squatting improves mobility, builds strength in the hips, glutes, quads, and core, and helps prevent injury. It’s a movement that supports your body for life, not just for the gym.
At Little City Fitness, we train squats weekly to build consistency, improve form, and increase strength over time. Squats aren’t just about leg day — they engage your entire body. And because they can be scaled and modified, everyone from our Legends to our advanced athletes can benefit from including them regularly.
The more consistently we squat, the more we develop confidence in our movement patterns. We can go heavier, go deeper, and move better. This translates to everything: picking up kids, moving furniture, walking up stairs, and staying independent as we age.
Squats are also a great way to measure progress. Maybe you started squatting to a box and now you’re crushing front squats with a barbell. That kind of tangible improvement is not only empowering — it’s proof that the work you’re putting in matters.
So yes, we squat every week. Because squats build strength, improve movement, and make life easier outside the gym. And as always, we’re here to coach you through every rep, cheer you on when it gets heavy, and celebrate the wins along the way.
See you in class — and yes, we're squatting.
